Satellite

Satellite Downlinks can be received and redistributed on any of the Video & Collaboration Services systems. VCS operates satellite dish antennas located on the roof of the CSE building. Each antenna is capable of receiving multiple programs from a satellite at one time providing flexible access to programming distributed over satellite for UF campus users. This service is most often used for Distance Learning and Video-Teleconferencing.

Satellite Downlinks are usually distributed throughout the campus on channels 12 or 13 and can be viewed anywhere the Campus Cable TV signal is available. Additional charges will apply for any video transport that is not over Campus Cable.

All downlinks can be made available as streaming video in addition to being broadcast on the UF cable TV network.

Scheduling

Advance reservation of a downlink time-slot is required. Proof of registration or license is required for all downlinks and any fees charged by the program originator must be paid by the user. Request a reservation for a particular time-slot by filling out an Event Request

Please obtain the relevant information and submit an Event Request as early as possible, but no later than ONE WEEK before the anticipated downlink. Subsequently, we will advise you if downlinking your material is not possible for technical or scheduling reasons.

One form is necessary for each and every downlink requested. If your program offers both a C and Ku band version of the program, please complete both the C and Ku sections of the form. This way Video & Collaboration Services can use the Ku as a backup if the C band does not work for some reason.

You should receive an e-mail message confirming that your request has been received within a few days after submission.
