COURSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ADVISORY GROUP

This site is being developed to facilitate the strategic planning process for CMS use at the University of Florida. Comments and questions should be directed to Doug Johnson, wanderer@ufl.edu.

Recommendation Decision:

After a ten-month review process, the University of Florida Course Management System Advisory Group voted to recommend WebCT Vista to be the centrally-supported CMS for UF. That recommendation has been accepted by the Vice Provost for Information Technology and the Provost.

We thank you for your interest throughout this process and encourage you to visit the Learning Support Systems website to monitor the progress of implementation!

Committee Mandate:

The CMS Advisory Group was tasked with three responsibilities:

  1. To assess and evaluate course management systems and to recommend to the Provost a single CMS to be centrally supported by UF;
  2. To identify the software, hardware, and human resources necessary and the required budget to provide those resources to effectively and efficiently support UF teaching and learning through the recommended CMS;
  3. To identify and budget the resources necessary to ensure a smooth consolidation and transition to that CMS.

Recommendation Process:

  • The CMSAG will recommend one CMS to be centrally supported at UF. The CMSAG will also provide hardware and human resources recommendations to migrate to and support the chosen CMS. The CMSAG will endeavor to align its recommendation with UF strategic priorities and will identify additional recommendations in terms of possible strategic priorities for the CMS.
  • The CMSAG report will be presented to Dr. Fedro Zazueta, Director of the Office of Academic Technology and to Dr. Charles Frazier, Vice Provost for Information Technology.
  • Upon their acceptance of the committee report, they will convey that recommendation to the Provost with their support or with a different recommendation.
  • The Provost will then decide which system UF will adopt and what level of support will best meet UF's strategic needs and budgetary priorities.
